Your challenge is to write crossover fanfiction combining Indiana Jones and Bill Nye the Science Guy.
The story should use bondage as a plot device!

Welcome to Blogathon Schedule B!

I’ve two pots of cowboy-strong iced Irish cream coffee, a quart of blue Monster Energy drink, and a pack of smokes (In case of emergency, sorry Grandma). I discovered my laptop is missing half of the power cord, so I’ll be tied to my desktop unit unless someone at Arkham can bring it to me. (I think it’s still in the wall behind their white couch, if any of you are in the neighborhood)

I’ve a nice long list of starting points, just in case.

You all can expect flash fiction, some little poetry, and little information things that might relate to writing in some vague round-about way. Also, periodically, you will hear from me. I will at least try to tell you how things are going.

I didn’t get my last minute nap, because I am too much of a media junkie to walk out on a movie in progress. FYI, “Perfume” is a good flick, but far beyond merely strange. FUBAR, maybe. Very cool. Very unique. Very very odd.

Keyword Articles

Nothing fancy here. I just want to vent about keyword articles. Maybe I write too slowly, but $2.00 USD for an article that takes nearly an hour to write seems a tiny bit low. These articles are usually 200-2500 words and require a phrase to be repeated verbatim in every paragraph. Sometimes it is more than one variation on a phrase, but it is always a pain in the rear end to incorporate that phrase into the prose without it sticking out like a sore thumb.

These articles are written for updating web content and the repetitive phrases are for searchablity. I’m perpetuating the low pay because I accept these little assignments. Sometimes it pans out though. I have a large assignment of these little fellows with a short deadline on a subject I enjoy: outdoor activities in Summit County, CO. EEEEeeeee.

Oh, and an update on the website. I’m thinking of using this style sheet for the site. I collect globes and actually own that particular figurine. Any opinions?

PR and the Internet

  • Posted on July 2, 2006 at 2:54 pm

Working though the internet with a low budget it a matter of time management, being multi-talented, hard working and patient. For example, I built Boese Online myself. I entered the HTML code, I figured out the graphics, and I found ways of making a really flat site seem more interactive that it is. It still looks homemade, but it is a well done homemade website. *vanity* It works without issue for over a year.

However, this blog was built by Blogger. Some fellow who knows his stuff designed the theme and someone else probably wrote the HTML/HTML/CSS. I just plug in my text and call it a day. This is nice, but it makes the main site look positively cheesy in comparison. Damn.

My site is usually my the closest thing that I get to an actual job interview. It has to look as good as possible. It is PR. It is advertising. It is a revenue generating entity, and I know that what I have available now is not particularly impressive. A solution?

I could make my blog match my web page: simple and corny, but mostly effective. Better yet I could design a new theme or style or whatever, and update the entire site so it matches, looks slick, and is more unique. Great idea! How do I do that? I need to polish my HTML. I need to learn XHTML and XML. I need to get a decent graphics program (right now I have Paint). I need to learn CSS. Then it would be a good idea to learn more about RSS feeds and maybe advertising…

By the time this site matches the images in my mind I will be 190 years old with some solid marketable skills and no life.

Writing on the Move

  • Posted on April 29, 2006 at 5:11 pm

Last weekend I was in Indy, as happens periodically. I had a deadline on Friday and another on Monday, so I brought my computer with me and worked when I had time. My mother thought it was adorable. Is my job cute? I hadn’t realized!

I did realize how wonderful this job is for a mobile person such as myself. I don’t know where I’ll be living for the next few months, but I do know exactly where to find my work. As long as there is a net connection I will have an office. How lovely!

Busy Busy Busy

So. I’m writing 2 or so articles each week for the ESL e-zine thingy.

I’m signed up with another forum posting company.

I recently wrote a sample essay for a web site looking for content. The editor is supposed to get back with me tomorrow.

I’m also trying to schedule an interview with a small publishing company for an editing/proofreading position.

Life seems fond of throwing curve balls, but being busy is a curve I can certainly take!

Quagmire

I’m writing a few articles for an ezine that targets 16-24 year old girls in mainland China. The zine is actually camouflaged for a market research survey website intended to provide information about Eastern markets to Western companies.

The name of the site is an edited version of the old slang word for “cheap Asian laborer or Asian slave.” I ran across a message board post that warns that the simplistic writing style demanded by the editor is degrading to Chinese women and the subject matter is a high-handed attempt at Westernizing China.

On the other hand the editor/CEO/ father of this project is a very successful global business man. (Potential patron?) He did address the accusations against him and seems to have a fairly solid plan for marketing this site. The material that he’s asking for is fun and easy to produce and the pay is lovely ($20-30 hourly).

Am I selling out my “art” by indulging in even more artless writing? Am I morally bankrupting myself by writing for a company accused of racism and degrading the cultural connections of Chinese women? Is my family’s need for a financial boost merely an cover up for my own greed?

*pondering*
