NaDriWriNi: Urghle Splutz

So here is what I learned last weekend:
Do not let GrayCub mix the drinks. Do not mix phych meds with alcohol. When you’ve decided you’ve had enough, say so in a firm, loud voice and go immediately to sleep. Do not drink because a pretty girl wiggles at you and says please, or because some anonymous figure on the other end of an IM says so, or ever include alcohol in kinky anything.
I’m not posting the rest of what I wrote, because it alternates between the slightly gory birthing scene that you may or may not make out from my last post, and a bleary commentary on the drunken goings on of myself, GrayCub, and Mr. Silver. Hmmm, and a bit of weird speculation the faceless-bad-influence, Etcet.
The end result? The worst hangover of my entire life, the realization that my bad blood could easily make me an genuine alchie, several hours of blackness in my memory, bruises and floor burn, a big block of stuff I deleted from my NanoWriMo word count. Also, the painfully sober Mr. Silver says that Gray and I can be mean drunks. He was mad. He may still be mad. *shiver* Oh, and there were clothing casualties. I’m still not sure where my bra went.
Maybe, if you DONATE $100 or more, I’ll give you the transcript of the night.

So, the eminent Mr. Silver claims that he has technological wonders that might be able to help me rescue my NaNo outline, and that would be great. In the meantime, I am chronicling the wanderings of Mrs. Naughty McMeanie-Pants. I wrote all of the preface up to the point where The King comes home and gets murdered and The Prince is cursed. Now, having fled the scene of the crime, Mrs. Naughty knows that her days are numbered and is searching for a restful place to wait for who ever takes it into his/her head to come for her.
All the while my so-called Main Characters are still off-stage waiting for the drama queen to get through her narrative. I can almost hear them.
“Is she wrapping up yet?”
“Not that I can tell, but the flashbacks have stopped.”
“Well, that’s probably a good sign.”
“Maybe”
*sigh* “Wake me when it’s my turn.”
Poor things. This is what happened and stalled me out last year, though, so I’m just letting it happen. Who knows, maybe I’ll end up with a nifty novel entirely from the McMeanie-Pants point-of-view. There are worse things.
Fundraising
Dear Friends, Family, and Righteous Supporters,
As always, the nonprofit Office of Letters and Light will be bringing together the most mighty of endurance novelists for an amazing event spanning the month of November.
This is, of course, National Novel Writing Month. It’s a global writing challenge in which participants spend November (and portions of our sanity!) writing a 50,000-word book in just 30 days.
I am among the participating authors this year. In addition to my creative duties, I’m raising money to help the Office of Letters and Light continue to put on free creative writing programs for kids and adults in classrooms, communities, and libraries around the world.
Every dollar I raise will motivate me as I write my way towards the realization of my creative goals. More importantly, your contribution will help National Novel Writing Month and its Young Writers Program create a more engaged and inspiring world.
In addition to the rewards that OLL is offering, sponsors who contribute $20 or more will receive a .PDF copy of my cleaned first draft and sponsors contributing $50 or more will receive a spiral-bound, autographed, annotated manuscript.
Thank you so much for your support of my writing and more, for supporting the education of the cretive minds of the future!
With Love,
RebaE
Write-In: Hooked on Colfax (Pre-show)

The first write-in at the Hooked on Colfax coffee house starts in a little over an hour. I’m planning to attend, if for no other reason than to get caught up on my word count. I’m a little behind since the landlord had someone in to spray for bugs. We had to keep the kitten out of the bug spray.
Anyway, I’m nervous. Meeting my peers. I’ll let you know how it goes.
Faithful Readers
Thanks to Khorboth and Coral who both sent me Love Letters Aren’t they lovely?
I thought Khor’s was especially poignant. Now I should put together another reader participation thingy. Yeah?
MFA: Terminal Velocity
According to The Association of Writer & Writing Programs, an MFA in Creative Writing is considered the terminal degree; the degree one must have in order to teach creative writing at the collegiate level.
Yesterday one of my profs said that I would be a good candidate for such a program, were I able to get my personal life under control. With that well placed spark, Dr. Franklin lit one heck of a fire under me.
I hit the AWP website to research schools that could possibly offer such programs, and was pleasantly surprised. There are local options, yes, and also programs at Notre Dame, Sarah Lawrence, Brown, NYU, and the Art Institute of Chicago. That last one has a certain sentimental appeal to me.
Right right, focus on getting out of the B.A’s first, then consider other degrees…

This have been an amazing experience. The choice to participate here was a last minute one. I signed up within the very last hours that sign up was available and I came no where near my fund raising goal. I suppose I have a day or so left for that, but that doesn’t matter. Now I know what is here, what I can do, and I will be read next time.

Good Advice
We all have our heroes and role models. Sometimes they guide us to be like them, and sometimes inspire us to do thing differently. My greatest professional rolemodel was Margaret-Anne Huffman, the aunt of an old friend. She was a career journalist and wrote dozens of inspirational books.
She passed away from cervical cancer several years ago, but before she left I was gifted some of solid advice:
Join a writer’s group Write everyday Find publisher who publishes the type of material you write and send for their writer’s guidelines Above all- write everyday
I wish I could have shared my successes with her, but when she passed away I had not yet had the courage to do more than scribble a little.
MA – I hope you’re proud of me!
Nepotism
nepotism
n : favoritism shown to relatives or close friends by those in power (as by giving them jobs)
I adore my friends. We are all very loyal to each other, and we are prone to helping each other in any way possible. This is normal for friends I suppose, but with us is does go a smidgen farther that just the occasional ride to work. 3 of my dearest friends work for a company own by the parents of a 4th friend. This company is frequently in need of contractors of all sorts, and last week that came to include my editing services.
It wasn’t a big job, but it was a great credit for the ol’ resume: proofreading the rules and regulations of a home owners association.
Yay!
