Wait, When Is It?
Ahh!
National Novel Writing Month starts in Nine Days!
Well, I’m less prepared than I wanted to be, but more prepared than I’ve been other years. Check back here for pre-writing activities, and as always, follow my progress on the NaNaWriMo site.
Meter and Rhyme: Décima
Today I’m playing with the décima, a beautiful, complex Spanish poetic form that incorporates meter, rhyme, and repetition.
The basic décima is a ten line poem. Each line is octosyllabic, and the rhyme scheme is as tricky ABAABCDCDC. Now, I hate rhyme, so If I were having a normal day, that would be more than enough for me. It seems that today I’m not feeling normal.
The décima con planta builds on that base. It is a forty-four line form, made up of four décima stanzas and a quatrain introductory stanza in which the lines echos the final lines of the stanzas. That is to say:
CGG2C2
ababacdcdC
efefeghghG
fhfhfgigiG2
dbdbdcjcjC2
Anyway, yes, it’s complex. This is what I came up with.
