The Daily Grind
Full time copy writing has taken up a lot of my time (imaging that) and I’ve had to cut some of my classes. Never fear, fair reader, I will still graduate on time.
My largest project this semester will be a 25 page independent writing projects. I’m considering writing a full length feature for Pan Gaia Magazine’s “Pagans and Money” themed issue. I’ll have a schedule posted here by this time next week!
Hired!
I’ll write about this now, since it’s unlikely I can jinx myself after the fact (touch wood). After years of freelancing for unreliable pay, it finally happened. The big one. I got the contract that can lead to a stable career! I applied on Wednesday, turned in a requested writing sample on Thursday, and was calling for an interview yesterday. I was expecting QA like any normal interview, but what I got was a sales pitch. “This is who we are! This is what we do! If you can fit in with this schedule, we would love to have you!
So. I took the contract for two months of full-time work. I start on monday. I need to buy more business casual attire. They may hire me full time after the contract ends. Maybe.
Contract position with the possibility of full-time work. This is an excellent opportunity for recent graduates looking to get in on the ground-floor of an exciting and fast-moving Web company. We need energetic self-starters who are driven to succeed to help grow our business. In our industry, Food Service Warehouse bills itself as The Product Experts. As such, we require a large amount of both technical and sales oriented copy detailing our product lines. You will be working with a team of writers to deliver a large amount of content under tight deadlines. This is an entry-level position with opportunity for growth.
Job responsibilities include:
- Communicating with vendors to gather all necessary marketing materials, imagery, and specifications for our product lines.
- Reading, absorbing, analyzing, and extracting the benefits of our product lines from marketing materials and succinctly rewriting that information for the Web.
- Accurately and efficiently entering this data into a Web-based intranet administrative system for display on our Web site.
- Maintaining our status as The Product Experts by both doggedly championing the concept as well as defending it under intense pressure to produce quantity over quality.
It look like mom was right. I need a new wardrobe!
